The Art of Sleeping Beauty
In today’s world, most of us women are just too busy to accomplish everything in one day. We try to cram everything in within 24hrs and wind up losing out on the most essential need, sleep. Sometimes our minds are racing with so much anxiety at night that it is almost impossible to get a nice full nights rest! How about when you wake up at 3am but you can’t get back to sleep because you feel wide awake? And then you’ll stay awake for a couple of hours and finally fall into a deep sleep at 6:30am but your alarm clock goes off 7am! When we lose out, we’re depleted. When we’re depleted, we’re cranky. When we’re cranky, we’re tired. When we’re tired, what is the first thing we tend to do? Grab a coffee perhaps? I’m guilty of that. We rely on Red Bull or pills to keep us energized.
After years of living life like this, we notice that we are not looking as young and fresh as we were a couple of years ago. Then we turn to unnatural products to fix our problems. Eye creams here, Botox there. Although it can be challenging to get enough of it, sleeping is the most natural, God given way to prevent looking or even feeling tired. Yes, I understand that in this era, we’re so busy doing everything and anything that it is near impossible to actually take 8 hours out of our day to sleep. The best thing to do is to start with your mental. You have to mentally prepare yourself to want to get that 8 hours. I even tested myself on obtaining “beauty sleep” and the results were phenomenal! I’ve slept for 8 hours every night, for 7 days a week and it actually does make a difference! I noticed that there were no bags under my eyes, my skin cleared, and I had less migraines! They don’t call it “beauty sleep” for no reason! It took me a least a week to get into the habit of sleeping.
To overcome anxiety before going to bed, come up with a thought plan to tell your mind it’s bedtime.
Here are a few ways to ease into the sleeping zone:
1. Remind yourself of your accomplishments for that day.
Tell yourself what you have done and what needs to be done the next day. Organizational skills are
a must for a “sleeping beauty.”
2. Practice meditation.
Learn how to put your thoughts to sleep. All you are doing is putting your mind at ease.
3. Practice yoga at night.
Yoga is one of the best restful practices! It helps reduce stress and relaxes your mind, body and soul.
4. Do not sleep on a full stomach! (The old myth is you will have nightmares!)
If you eat before you go to bed, you will wake up with bad stomach cramps, and feeling nausea,
which makes it hard to function the following day, and that’s a nightmare in itself!
5. Do not go to bed angry.
Remember life is about enjoying. You don’t want to wake up to a brand new day being upset. Come
to peace with yourself the night before.
If none of these steps work, it may be time for you to see a doctor.
Have a good night sleep… Sleeping Beauty.
