Life after Top Model

All the way from San Fransisco, California hails Marvita Washington from America’s Next Top Model! She has come a long way since being on the show.

Well, hello Marvita and thank you for being here.
Thank you for having me.

So tell us, what was life like before “America's Next Top Model”?
I was working at a UHaul, parking trucks, preparing for a police enforcement exam (smiles).
Wow... that's a far cry from modeling!

Did you decide to be on Top Model yourself or did you have any encouragement?
My pastor and family encouraged me to be on Top Model, so I decided to give it a try.

Has Top Model helped or hindered your success?
Sometimes a plus, or a negative, more beneficial for TV work. They want drama on the show to bring personality.
surprise, surprise...

Have you traveled for work since being on the show?
I've traveled to Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico for work. Great experiences!

How do you feel about Black women in the modeling industry?
There is really not a lot of African American women in the industry. You have to be extremely dark or African or extremely light with big curly hair. There is not a lot of work out there for African American women.
Oh really?

What are your future goals?
I would love to experience more in my career and in life, maybe try London for a change and travel more.

What other projects have you worked on?
Brooklyn Fashion Week, Sheer Genius, International Reggae Music Awards.
Other shows, such as the Tyra Show (of course), Fringe, International Reggae Awards and Sheer Genius.

Any projects in the near future?
Yes, but top Secret. You'll see!

Any advice for the up and coming model?
Practice your walk, follow your heart, do your best, practice, practice, practice!
