A Day at the Whitney

WhitneyOTW

Creative Director, John Ashford and I spent the day at the Whitney Museum this past weekend. This was my first time visiting and I really enjoyed the art presentations. I usually enjoy visiting museum. Some of my favorites are The Metropolitan and Brooklyn Museum. But this one was quite interesting all the way through.

I am going to give you a sneak peek into what we saw at the Whitney.

The first stop was Off the Wall. These were 30 “Performative Actions” from the 1960’s to 1970’s. We saw Paul McCartney and other various people engaging in strange activities. We’ve also seen a ghostly halogram that appeared to be stalking us. I have to admit this part was a little scary, in a strange but not real scary kind-of-way (if you know what I mean:-).

And this is only Part 1. I’ll be excited to see Part 2! Which will open September 30th-October 3
(Part 1: July 1st-September 19th)

Then we swung over to Charles Burchfield’s water color and charcoal paintings. His paintings were captivating and would draw the human eye to see his vision. It was interesting to see his early works going back to around 1910 and even earlier and seeing the actual painting. It reminded me of the early 20th century cartoon drawings.
(June 24th- October 17th)

Collecting Biennials was a cool exhibit which was presented as modern art. There was a scary looking waxed woman sitting in a chair. She looked like a corpse reading a letter from her niece. We also saw a "dread tree". The security guard told us to beware of the tarantulas! There were also photographs of hippies doing drugs. The last section we viewed was a photographic story of a lifetime black actress. It was pretty sad and interesting story.
(Closes November 28)

I don’t want to spoil it for you, so without giving away too much, I encourage you all to go and check it out!
