ZEPHORAHmagazine interviews Britney Frady-Williams of Berít New York

Where is Berit New York based?
My company is based in Brooklyn, NY

How long has your company been in existence?
Berít New York has been established for little over 2 years now

What is the inspiration behind your line?
My main inspiration is history and fantasy. I try to envision the fantastical amidst the mundane and combine elements of the future with time and places of the past. I think the tagline “bringing old world charm into modern day living,” sums up my company pretty well.

Please tell us about the uniqueness of your clothing? The types of materials used?
Most of my pieces are one-of-a-kind so you will not find them anywhere else. I like balanced design and lots of details. My style is not simplistic, although I do respect simplicity in many aspects of my life designing is not one of them. I do not complete an item until I am fully satisfied with its details from the inside out.
I believe in not just creating something but in actually inventing new ways of seeing, wearing or using things. I strive to make my work reflect these beliefs.
I enjoy working with different types of fabrics such as plastic vinyl, PVC and meshing it with older more traditional fabrics like cotton and wool. I also incorporate metal work into my accessory pieces made by Berít New York’s very own metal worker Tatiana Laguer.

What is the price range?
My prices range from $20 accessories to $500 dresses. Most of my pieces can be sold separately to give the customer a better range to choose from but you will find that a lot of the pieces can go together as well.

Any projects or fashion shows coming in the near future?
I just finished doing Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors X-treme fashion show in NYC and will be doing a VIP Ultimate Alt Couture shoot hosted by SNAP* later this month. You can also check out my new spring 2010 line at Obscura in October. You can visit my website www.beritnewyork.com for a complete list of all the upcoming events Berít New York will be appearing at.

I am currently revamping my website to open up an online storefront. We are very excited about this as this is a major step in the company and we are hoping to test the waters with new products coming this summer. You can visit us at www.beritnewyork.com for more information.
